What skin type best represents your skin? *

A skin type, as opposed to skin concern, is the basis of understanding your skin. If you have oily skin for example, and your concern is breakouts, if we can remedy the excess oil production, then the breakouts will lessen. If you have dry skin for example, and your concern is flaky skin, using hydrating products will hit two birds with one stone - so to speak.
P.S. we ask what your concerns are later on.

Skin types can change with the seasons, stress, age and environment. Which skin type best represents your skin today?

Not sure which skin type best represents your skin?

Follow these three easy steps to determine your skin type.

1. Cleanse your face before bed.
2. Leave your skin bare without moisturising or adding any other product to it.
3. In the morning analyse your T Zone and C Zones.

Your T Zone is the skin on your forehead, nose and chin.
Your C Zone is the skin on your cheeks and surrounding your T Zone.

Oily Skin: is characterised by an oily T Zone and C Zone which is shiny and slick to the touch. The skin should not feel tight and you could have pores that are enlarged, blackheads and shiny skin.

Dry Skin: is characterised by a dry T Zone and C Zone which may appear flaky in nature. You may have more visible lines, invisible pores, red patches and a dull complexion. The skin may also feel tight and can be red in appearance.

Combination Skin: Both oily and dry skin varying in location, the most common pattern is an oily T Zone with a dry C Zone. You could have pores that appear larger, blackheads and shiny skin.

Normal Skin: Neither oily nor dry T and C Zones, little to no imperfections and barely visible pores. Skin does not appear flaky or shiny and is not red in complexion. If you have this skin type consider your self one lucky individual!

It’s important to remember that your skin type may change over time and is most commonly effected by: health, age, medication, hormones, diet, smoking, pollution and seasonal changes in weather, so best to check back regularly.

Are you ready for the next question?

How dry would you rate your skin? *

Dry skin can range from merely that tight skin feel after removing makeup, to feeling scaly most of the time, all the way through to the full blown Sahara Desert which can be flaky, sensitive, raw always dry. Let us know where your skin sits on the dryness scale.

How oily would you rate your skin? *

Your skin's oil production can be working at full-force 24/7, or it can develop over the course of a day. Let us know what time of the day your skin becomes oily.

Congrats you're normal - not many are!

What's your number one skin concern? *

A skin concern, can be related to your skin type, but is not always present with everyone who has the same skin type. Skin concerns are a symptom which need to be addressed seperately. We do this to ensure you're using skincare which benefits your skin's unique needs. We like to address concerns by providing products which help to reduce them. Choose your primary skin concern below - don't worry you get to choose one more!

How sensitive is your skin? *

Sensitive skin can be frustrating. Do you feel like nothing can touch your skin without it stinging?
Or a product works for a while - then irritates your skin? The first-time you try a product can be daunting, because no-one wants to: a) self-inflict pain or b) check the mirror every 5 minutes for a rash or breakout.

Where do your breakouts most commonly occur?

Breakouts are caused by a variety of factors; diet, environment, hormones and products. They vary in shape, size, place, frequency and the amount of pain they cause. Did you know the pattern of your breakouts can say a lot about what's happening inside your body? Let us know where on your face you breakout the most.

Forehead = Digestive System and Bladder

Constant acne on your forehead could indicate a problem with your urinary or digestive systems. Do you drink a lot of dehydrating liquids like coffee, tea or fizzy drinks? You may need to cut down and up your water intake to improve your digestion. If you're constantly dehydrated, your digestive system will not process food well. You could also try adding foods into your diet that are rich in probiotics and enzymes; yogurt, kombucha, papaya and pineapple are some. If your bowels aren’t moving, you can also try adding more fibre and water to your diet. Make sure your bowels move at least once a day to allow toxins to be excreted.

Between the eyes = Liver

Do you ever notice breakouts forming between your eyes after a night out on the vino or after a day of caffeine fuelled meetings? These breakouts may be due to the toxic load on your liver and can be caused by alcohol, caffeine and other drugs. According to the Chinese face mapping technique, the area between the eyes is linked to the liver, the body’s most powerful detoxification organ. When you experience acne between the eyes it may pay to up your water intake and cut down on stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol and other drugs. Taking herbal supplements to help your liver process toxins in your system such as; milk thistle, burdock root, artichoke and turmeric, may also support your liver in detoxifying your body, resulting in clear skin.

Ears = Kidneys

Acne on or around your ears or red, hot and swollen ears can indicate issues associated with kidney function according to Chinese face mapping guidelines. To improve kidney function, hydrate yourself with plenty of water and cut down on stress, sugar, caffeine and alcohol. Try drinking dandelion tea as it improves kidney function.

Cheeks = Respiratory system

If you’re a smoker you may notice acne, broken capillaries and redness on your cheeks, this is because the cheeks are linked to the respiratory system. The only way to stop these symptoms is to take control of your health and quit. Allergies can also cause pimples on your cheeks. Try supporting your immune system by adding plenty of fresh garlic and vitamin C to your diet. You can also try supplementary herbs such as horseradish and echinacea to help normalise your immune system so it has a higher tolerance to allergens.

Nose = Heart

If there are pimples poping up all over your nose the cause could be high blood pressure. High blood pressure is often caused by stress or being overweight. Exercise is a great way to lower blood pressure and maintain a healthy weight. Try yoga, power walking or even a light jog to help relieve stress and calm the mind. It's also wise to avoid processed, fat and sugar laden 'food-like' products and choose fresh organic alternatives instead.

Chin = Stomach and Intestines

According to the Chinese face mapping technique, the chin is linked with your intestines so if there’s acne on your chin, your digestive system may not be working at its optimum level. Probiotics and fibre - such as psyllium husk or ground flaxseeds - can help balance your gut bacteria and assist your digestive system to keep your bowels functioning at their optimum level. Ensure you drink extra water to compensate for the additional fibre, otherwise you may end up more blocked than how you began.

Jawline = Hormones

Chinese face mapping techniques indicate that large, sore, cystic acne on and around your jawline may be due to a hormonal imbalance. Cystic acne, often occurs around that time of the month and is quite normal. However, if you are constantly experiencing cystic acne along your jawline or on your back and are experiencing other hormonal symptoms; mood swings, fluid retention, weight gain, fatigue or irregular periods, it may be beneficial to consider taking; vitex (chaste tree), evening primrose oil, or maca root. This will help your body balance out its hormone levels. If these symptoms persist, it may be in your best interest to seek help from a medical professional.

Neck = Bacterial infection

If you are getting pimples on your neck it can be because your body is fighting a bacterial infection, your immune system is low and you're stressed or the clothing you are wearing could be an irritant. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids, get lots of rest and eat foods rich in vitamin C and protein. You may also want to consider herbs with antibacterial properties like garlic, olive leaf and neem seed, as well as giving your immune system a boost with foods rich in probiotics like kombucha or sauerkraut.
